Unity...Diversity...Pride

What are the Floyd County Friends?

Floyd County Friends, Inc. organized in March 1995 with the primary goal of building a Multi-Purpose Facility to serve all of the citizens of Floyd County.  There were concerns in both towns of inadequate space for banquet/meeting halls that had the ability to seat crowds in 400+ range.  The Floyd County Livestock Barn in Floydada and the Floyd County Fairgrounds in Lockney were in severe disrepair.  It was decided that we needed to "Meet in the Middle" at Muncy, 5 miles from each town, and construct a building that would accommodate everyone.  Floyd County Friends agreed that 8,000 people could accomplish more by combining the talents, assets and energy of both Floydada and Lockney.

"UNITY - DIVERSITY - PRIDE"

Three words were the driving force of seeing that the Unity Center would become a reality for Floyd County -- "Unity, Diversity & Pride."

"Unity" was for Floydada and Lockney and all parts of Floyd County to join together for a common cause of improving the quality of life for all citizens of all ages.  It was decided that 8,000 people could accomplish so much by combining its talents, assets and energies.

"Diversity" was for a facility that would improve existing activities such as the Floyd County Fair and the  Floyd County Junior Livestock Show, while at the same time create opportunities for new events that would enhance Floyd County.

"Pride" is for Floyd County to have a modern facility to host large activities to begin the 21st Century.

This slogan has already proved to be correct in just the first few months of operation.  It took foresight by the Floyd County Friends to make the plans.  And, it took the support of believers to make the dream come true.
